The Naked City

Entered into Best Restoration and Preservation Project or Title by TLE Films

“There are 8 million stories in the Naked City” – as producer Mark Hellinger himself says in his off-introduction of this film – “this is one of them.” In New York, attractive model, Jean Dexter, is found murdered in her apartment. Homicide detectives Muldoon and Halloran – with the help of other beat cops and detectives – set out to find the girl’s killer. Their investigation ties the model’s death to a bizarre string of apartment burglaries but as Muldoon and Halloran start to fill in the details of the victim’s past, they discover that her lively social life and many suitors make the mystery even more complex… Master noir director Jules Dassin and newspaperman-turned-producer Mark Hellinger united to make the first studio film ever shot entirely on location in New York.
