FOCAL International Awards – Eiligibilty Criteria & Guidelines

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A HISTORY PRODUCTION:

Includes documentaries or docudramas dealing with historical issues, events or people. Productions may be up to a maximum of 60 minutes in length or per each episode.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A HISTORY FEATURE:

Includes documentaries or docudramas dealing with historical issues, events or people of more than 60 minutes in length.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A FACTUAL PRODUCTION:

Includes documentaries, docudramas or shorts dealing with issues, people or events which could include disasters, environmental issues, the economy, human interest, current affairs, etc.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN AN ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTION:

Includes documentaries, docudramas, list and blooper type programmes, humorous use of footage, comedy sketch series, quizzes etc.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN AN ARTS PRODUCTION:

Includes documentaries, docudramas or shorts featuring any of the arts, literature, architecture, dance, history of film & TV, biographies or artistes, writers, entertainers etc.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A MUSIC PRODUCTION:

Includes documentaries, docudramas or shorts featuring history of music, biographies of musicians, singers, composers etc.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A SPORTS PRODUCTION:

Productions for any media platform, which use footage of any sports, are eligible for this award. Productions can include documentaries; docudramas, shorts, trailers, adverts and so may also be eligible for the innovative platforms or Advert/short film category.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A NATURAL WORLD PRODUCTION:

Productions for any media platform which use footage of animals, plants and the physical natural world including weather, floods, earthquakes and natural disasters.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN A CINEMATIC FEATURE:

Productions that are cinematic in ambition, scope and duration and not limited to traditional cinema releases

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE IN ADVERTISING OR SHORT FILM PRODUCTION:

Productions can include short films of any genre and focus or examples of advertising across any platform that includes the use of archival footage to tell the story of the product.

BEST USE OF FOOTAGE ON INNOVATIVE PLATFORMS:

Projects eligible would include use of archive in visual arts installations; live events; online platforms and other unconventional formats, with the aim of inventing new ways of engaging with archival footage and bringing its relevance and power to new audiences.

 

Supporting visual material is required. There is a £75(plus VAT) submission fee per category.
